**Metric Tonne** (abbreviations: **metric ton, or metric tons, or ton, or tons**): is a SI metric unit of mass, also known as tonne. Although, it is used principally as a unit of mass, it has acquired a number of meanings and uses over long years. It is equivalent to 1,000 kilograms (Kg), or one megagram (Mg), or approximately 2,204.6 pounds (lb), or 1.10 short tons (US), or 0.984 long tons (imperial).

**Kilopound** (abbreviation: **kips**): is a unit of force, equivalent to 1000 pounds (lb) which is used in some systems of measurement including English Engineering units and the British Gravitational System. Also, it is a unit of mass used in the imperial, United States customary and other systems of measurement.

## How to Convert Metric Tonnes to Kilopounds

*Example: How many kilopounds are equivalent to 2.59 metric tonnes?*

As;

1 metric tonnes = 2.20462 kilopounds

2.59 metric tonnes = Y kilopounds

Assuming Y is the answer, and by criss-cross principle;

Y equals 2.59 times 2.20462 over 1

(i.e.) Y = 2.59 * 2.20462 / 1 = 5.7099658 kilopounds

Answer is: 5.7099658 kilopounds are equivalent to 2.59 metric tonnes.
