**Definitions:**

**Metric Tonne** (abbreviations: **metric ton, or metric tons, or ton, or tons**): is a SI metric unit of mass, also known as tonne. Although, it is used principally as a unit of mass, it has acquired a number of meanings and uses over long years. It is equivalent to 1,000 kilograms (Kg), or one megagram (Mg), or approximately 2,204.6 pounds (lb), or 1.10 short tons (US), or 0.984 long tons (imperial).

**Newton** (abbreviation: **N**): is the International System of Units (SI) derived unit of force. It is named after Isaac Newton in recognition of his work on classical mechanics, specifically Newton's second law of motion. One newton is the force needed to accelerate one kilogram of mass at the rate of one metre per second squared in direction of the applied force.

## How to Convert Metric Tonnes to Newtons

*Example: How many newtons are equivalent to 90.47 metric tonnes?*

As;

1 metric tonnes = 9806.65 newtons

90.47 metric tonnes = Y newtons

Assuming Y is the answer, and by criss-cross principle;

Y equals 90.47 times 9806.65 over 1

(i.e.) Y = 90.47 * 9806.65 / 1 = 887207.6255 newtons

Answer is: 887207.6255 newtons are equivalent to 90.47 metric tonnes.
