**Definitions:**

**Pound** (abbreviations: **lb, or lbs, or ps**): is a unit of force used in some systems of measurement including English Engineering units and the British Gravitational System. Also, it is a unit of mass used in the imperial, United States customary and other systems of measurement.

**Slug** (abbreviations: **ps2pf, or lb.s2/ft**): is a unit of mass in the weight-based system of measures, especially within the British Imperial measurement system and in the United States customary measures system. Systems of measure either define mass and derive weights or define a base weight and derive a mass unit. ## How to Convert Pounds to Slugs

*Example: How many slugs are equivalent to 15.89 pounds?*

As;

1 pounds = 0.03108 slugs

15.89 pounds = Y slugs

Assuming Y is the answer, and by criss-cross principle;

Y equals 15.89 times 0.03108 over 1

(i.e.) Y = 15.89 * 0.03108 / 1 = 0.4938612 slugs

Answer is: 0.4938612 slugs are equivalent to 15.89 pounds.
