It is named after Isaac Newton in recognition of his work on classical mechanics, specifically Newton's second law of motion. One newton is the force needed to accelerate one kilogram of mass at the rate of one metre per second squared in direction of the applied force.

**Pound** (abbreviations: **lb, or lbs, or ps**): is a unit of force used in some systems of measurement including English Engineering units and the British Gravitational System. Also, it is a unit of mass used in the imperial, United States customary and other systems of measurement.

## How to Convert Newtons to Pounds

*Example: How many pounds are equivalent to 64.87 newtons?*

As;

1 newtons = 0.224809 pounds

64.87 newtons = Y pounds

Assuming Y is the answer, and by criss-cross principle;

Y equals 64.87 times 0.224809 over 1

(i.e.) Y = 64.87 * 0.224809 / 1 = 14.58335983 pounds

Answer is: 14.58335983 pounds are equivalent to 64.87 newtons.
