Metric Tonne (abbreviations: metric ton, or metric tons, or ton, or tons): is a SI metric unit of mass, also known as tonne. Although, it is used principally as a unit of mass, it has acquired a number of meanings and uses over long years. It is equivalent to 1,000 kilograms (Kg), or one megagram (Mg), or approximately 2,204.6 pounds (lb), or 1.10 short tons (US), or 0.984 long tons (imperial).
Atomic Mass Unit (abbreviations: amu, or u): also known as dalton (symbol: Da), is a standard unit of mass that used on an atomic or molecular scale (atomic mass). One unified atomic mass unit is about the mass of one nucleon (either a single proton or neutron) and equivalent to 1 g/mol.
How to Convert Metric Tonnes to Atomic Mass Units
Example: How many atomic mass units are equivalent to 54.6 metric tonnes?
As;
1 metric tonnes = 6.024E+29 atomic mass units
54.6 metric tonnes = Y atomic mass units
Assuming Y is the answer, and by criss-cross principle;
Y equals 54.6 times 6.024E+29 over 1
(i.e.) Y = 54.6 * 6.024E+29 / 1 = 3.289104E+31 atomic mass units
Answer is: 3.289104E+31 atomic mass units are equivalent to 54.6 metric tonnes.
