**Definitions:**

**Kilonewton** (abbreviation: **kN**): is the International System of Units (SI) derived unit of force where 1 kN = 1000 N. It is named after Isaac Newton in recognition of his work on classical mechanics, specifically Newton's second law of motion.

**Kilopound** (abbreviation: **kips**): is a unit of force, equivalent to 1000 pounds (lb) which is used in some systems of measurement including English Engineering units and the British Gravitational System. Also, it is a unit of mass used in the imperial, United States customary and other systems of measurement.

## How to Convert Kilonewton to Kilopounds

*Example: How many kilopounds are equivalent to 71.43 kilonewton?*

As;

1 kilonewton = 0.224809 kilopounds

71.43 kilonewton = Y kilopounds

Assuming Y is the answer, and by criss-cross principle;

Y equals 71.43 times 0.224809 over 1

(i.e.) Y = 71.43 * 0.224809 / 1 = 16.05810687 kilopounds

Answer is: 16.05810687 kilopounds are equivalent to 71.43 kilonewton.
