Liter (abbreviations: ltr, or lit, or l, or litre): is an SI accepted metric system unit of volume equal to 1 cubic decimetre (dm3), 1,000 cubic centimetres (cm3) or 1/1,000 cubic metre. A cubic decimetre (or litre) occupies a volume of 10x10x10 centimetres and is thus equal to one-thousandth of a cubic metre.

Three significantly different sizes are in current use: the imperial gallon defined as 4.54609 litres, which is used in the United Kingdom, Canada, and some Caribbean nations; the US gallon defined as 231 cubic inches (3.785 L), which is used in the US and some Latin American and Caribbean countries; and the least-used US dry gallon defined as 1/8 US bushel (4.405 L).
How to Convert Liters to US Gallons
Example: How many US gallons are equivalent to 23.66 liters?
As;
1 liters = 0.264201 US gallons
23.66 liters = Y US gallons
Assuming Y is the answer, and by criss-cross principle;
Y equals 23.66 times 0.264201 over 1
(i.e.) Y = 23.66 * 0.264201 / 1 = 6.25099566 US gallons
Answer is: 6.25099566 US gallons are equivalent to 23.66 liters.
