**Definitions:**

**Kilometer** (abbreviation: **km**): is a unit of length in the SI metric system, equal to one thousand metres (kilo- being the prefix for 1000). It is now the measurement unit used officially for expressing distances between geographical places on land in most of the world countries.

**Centimeter** (abbreviation: **cm**): is a unit of length in the SI metric system, equal to one hundredth of a metre, centi being the prefix for a factor of 1/100. The centimetre was the base unit of length in the now deprecated centimetre–gram–second (CGS) system of units.

## How to Convert Kilometers to Centimeters

*Example: How many centimeters are equivalent to 16.7 kilometers?*

As;

1 kilometers = 100000 centimeters

16.7 kilometers = Y centimeters

Assuming Y is the answer, and by criss-cross principle;

Y equals 16.7 times 100000 over 1

(i.e.) Y = 16.7 * 100000 / 1 = 1670000 centimeters

Answer is: 1670000 centimeters are equivalent to 16.7 kilometers.
