Kilometer Square (abbreviation: km2): is the SI derived unit of area. It is the area of a square whose sides measure exactly one kilometre. The square metre is derived from the SI base unit of the metre, which itself is the length of the path travelled by light in absolute vacuum within time interval of 1/299,792,458 * 1000 of a second.

How to Convert Kilometers Square to Meters Square
Example: How many meters square are equivalent to 72.86 kilometers square?
As;
1 kilometers square = 1000000 meters square
72.86 kilometers square = Y meters square
Assuming Y is the answer, and by criss-cross principle;
Y equals 72.86 times 1000000 over 1
(i.e.) Y = 72.86 * 1000000 / 1 = 72860000 meters square
Answer is: 72860000 meters square are equivalent to 72.86 kilometers square.
